BIOGRAPHY
Before studying at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design Branden Davison worked in the construction industry. Throughout this period, he developed a wider understanding of material and form that still informs his work today. An example of this is evident in large sculptural piece commissioned by the Institute of Art and Design, Farnham campus.
My work evolves from direct experience of fleeting images that are translated through a process of drawing and continuous consideration. Through the process of working and re-working drawings, a conclusion is made. At that point it is appropriate to begin the making of the object or image. Like the drawings the act of making is kept in a state of constant change, creating a dialogue between the original experience and the work.
The use of concrete in my work is a link with my background which has an association with the industrial landscape. I am interested in the use of materials to depict forms that are related
to nature. The scale of the work is important as it maintains a direct relationship and association between myself and the viewer. The process refers to the drawings in terms of texture, composition, line, and form.
Sighting my work is determined from the original experience and exploration of positive and negative spaces within the drawings. It is therefore my objective that the work should read as an autonomous object and justify itself by successfully existing within its own environment.
